The Estate
Since established, Whinstone Estate has been aiming at producing single vineyard wines of excellent quality. We have developed a reputation for growing exceptionally fine fruit which has been sold to several of the larger premium winemakers on the Mornington Peninsula. At the same time grapes were put aside to make wines under the Whinstone label. Varieties grown at Whinstone Estate are Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadet/Melon. These wines became available under the Whinstone label late in 2003.Several vintages have been cellared to allow the wines to develop.
In 2009, Whinestone was taken over by Guoming and Diana, who has been in the wine making and distribution business for over 10 years.
At Whinstone, Geoff Clark, who has got over 20 years of vineyard management experience, was hired as the vineyard manager. And the well known professional wine maker Simo was also hired to bring Whinestone brand to a new level.
The Vineyard
The name of the vineyard was derived from a geological name for the rocks that appeared when the vineyard was being prepared for planting. Situated on the slopes of a beautiful valley on the Mornington peninsula the vineyard enjoys a Northwest aspect. |
